Breathing Lessons

Each breathe in is a possible birth, each breathe out a possible end.

The suggestion was simple: pay attention to your breathing during the course of a single day.

That's it.

So I paid attention today. Noted when I held it, when it was shallow or deep, when it came through clenched teeth, or rushed out in a sigh. My breathing entangled in emotions, signalled how I felt as clearly as if I'd posted it on the closest billboard. Where did that come from?

Couldn't help myself, I started to see parallels between the way I breath and the way I live, and to question if this was to be my road. Was it rushed? Enjoyed fully? Savoured? Not always.

But at least now I've been reminded that with my next breath I can start again.
