Today marks the inauguration of the National Mitten Registry, the National Post's "bold new initiative to reunite Canadians with their misplaced gloves and mittens."
I'm not making this up, I swear!
It further states "This noble project can only work with your help, so please lend us a hand by returning a mitten to your neighbour's frostbitten hand. If the National Mitten Registry is a success, Canadian winters will be that much easier to handle."
Hmm. It sounds frivolous, but why not? I'll admit, when I lost one of my favourite black stretch chenille gloves last year, I kept the mate for months, hoping against hope that I'd lost it a friend's place or it would show up in my office's lost and found box. But it never did, and I mourned it's loss. If only a registry had been available then!
So to all you Canadians - please do your part. If you find a lone glove or mitten, send it in along with the particulars (where and when you found it, as well as your name, address and contact information) to:
